Do you use clean burning candles? (article from http://www.ecovoice.com.au/)
Did you know conventional paraffin wax candles when burned release not just soot but
carcinogens into the air you breathe? Our Soy wax candles are not made from
petroleum but from Soy bean oil and are non-toxic biodegradable and contain no synthetic fragrances ONLY pure Essential Oils.
Soy wax candles contribute to the reduction of our dependency on crude oil and
promote the care of our environment by utilizing plants that are not depleted.
Soy candles contain no beeswax or other animal by- products qualifying them as VEGAN.
Each Nature's Symphony Soy Wax candle is individually handcrafted, using only the purest ingredients.
Unlike paraffin wax candles, soy wax candles burn up to 50% longer than paraffin wax and do not produce harmful carcinogens.
BRIEF HISTORY OF SOY WAX
Soy wax is a new type of candle wax which not many of us are familiar with.
It was developed in 1991 by Michael Richards, who was looking for a cheaper alternative to beeswax. While he experimented with different types of vegetable waxes, he finally found a method of using soy beans to produce an affordable, eco friendly natural wax product, which was made with partially hydrogenated soy oil. He soon after developed different mixtures of soy wax for container candles.
Since 1999 a lot of research has been done to prove the benefits of soy wax.
BENEFITS OF SOY WAX CANDLES
Natural Soy Wax candles are vegetable based and 100% NON TOXIC! Made from good-old fashioned earth grown soybeans.
Soy candles contain no animal by- products qualifying them as vegan.
Soy candles produce about 80% less soot than paraffin candles and thus help to maintain air quality.
Soy candle wax burns cleaner and cooler are water souluble and biodegradable, resulting in reduced landfill and are easy to clean with hot soapy water, eliminating the need to use chemical solvents.
Soy candles last longer Soy candles last 50% longer than paraffin candles. The wax burns completely and cleanly with no carbon build up or fumes floating in the air, coating walls and lungs.
Soy candles contain NO pesticides or herbicides
Soy candles reduce global dependence on crude oil
and the detrimental effects its harvesting have on earth.
Scented soy candles distribute more fragrance. The incorporation of soybean oil lowers the melting point of the candle, which translates into cooler burning candles and faster scent dispersion.
Cotton wicks used in our soy candles are the safest to use with no harmful side effects.
Wax colour in our candles is derived from vegetables.
Soy Wax Candles are an inexpensive investment in the future of the environment.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Paraffin wax is derived from petroleum. Itemits vapours harmful to you and the environment. Burning paraffin wax candles releases carcinogens into the atmosphere similar to that of petrol being burned by an automobile.
Studies have shown that carcinogens released by paraffin wax candles are as dangerous as second hand cigarette smoke and can cause harm to the heart, lungs, circulatory system and nervous system. This is not only a health concern but also an environmental concern.
Paraffin wax supports the oil industry.
Lead wicks in paraffin wax candles can cause lead poisoning. It has been found that exposure to even small amounts of lead can contribute to the overall level of lead in the blood.
Tips to enjoy longer and safer use of your soy wax candles.
Although soy candles produce much less soot than paraffin candles, you should not burn too many candles in a small room at once. If you do, make sure that there's adequate ventilation.
To extinguish a soy candle, use a wick dipper. This will avoid the formation of smoke in the air.
Allow candle to cool and harden before relighting
Before re-lighting the soy candle, the wick should be trimmed to about 5mm, otherwise the candle will smoke and burn too fast. If the soy candle begins to smoke, it is an indication that the wick is too long and it needs to be trimmed down.
Extinguish the wick and wait for wax to solidify before trimming the wick and re-lighting.
Allowing candles to liquefy to the edge before extinguishing will prevent tunnelling. The larger the candle diameter, the longer it will take the candle to liquefy to the edge.
Never replace the lid on a container candle to extinguish the flame.
Keep burning soy candles away from children, pets and flammable materials. Never, leave burning candles unattended.
Soy candles should not be left for a long time in direct sunlight otherwise the colour may fade.
